FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WJW) - A resident in Fairview Park captured video of a unique encounter between a deer and a hawk over the holiday weekend.
Barra Terrigno shared the video which lasted more than 2 minutes to a community Facebook page and wrote, "Apparently deer and hawks like each other."
The video she said was taken on Monday, Sept. 2, shows a hawk sitting on the edge of a bird bath when a curious deer comes up to give it a sniff.
The hawk "never flinched," according to Terrigno.
The deer continues to smell the hawk for more than a full minute. Then, a fawn enters the picture and the hawk flaps its large wings startling the baby deer away. But, the large deer stays put. Again, taking interest in the hawk and giving it a sniff.
The video garnered dozens of comments from people who watched in amazement.
One commenter, "I would have watched that for hours."
Another wrote, "Never saw anything like it!"
While some expressed concern that perhaps the hawk was injured, Terringo said, they saw the hawk fly a few times and the following morning it was gone.
"So looks to be totally fine!"
